The Perfect Wedding Dress Under $20

Amazon is my go-to place for just about everything I need to buy so when my brother-in-law was getting married, I went straight there to look for the perfect dress.  I knew I wanted something with flowers and this is what I came up with. It’s flattering and under $20! I’m 5’4″ and wearing a medium.

Try it on Tuesday: Wedding Style

This post contains affiliate links.

Wedding season is here!!! This week I decided not to shop at just one store but to check out several with the purpose of looking for wedding guest dresses only. It was more challenging than I thought it would be because I was looking for budget friendly dresses. I wanted to keep the dresses around $50 or less (and some are) but others are over $100.

Trumpet Sleeves

This one is a steal at $34.99! And I like that it could be worn to work. It would be really cute with some fun earrings from Sugarfix by BaubleBar.

Crochet Blush Dress

Blush is such a hot color this season. I feel constantly drawn towards it. It’s interesting how different this dress looks on me compared to the model. It’s much shorter on the model (not surprising) but it’s also way more form fitting rather than A lined. They must have had the dressed pinned back when they took the model’s picture.

Dainty Fringe

Another blush favorite! I like the simple details of this dress. I’m also a big fan of dresses than can be dressed up or down. This one would be easy to wear to work with or without a jacket.

Floral Maxi

A dress like this would be pretty for a beach or garden wedding. The back is a little open but doesn’t reveal too much skin. However, wearing a bra would get tricky. You’d probably need to wear an adhesive bra.

Cobalt Blue

It’s fun to see some bright colors back again. This Vince Camuto dress has fun, flirty details. Definitely twirl-worthy.

Lace Illusion Dress

I need a size smaller in this one but I really like it anyways. It’s unique but timeless at the same time.

Sequin Dress

I feel ready to dance in this one. Fun for a fancy girls’ night out or a wedding. I was a bit worried about the sequence; they always seem to hurt but this one was fine and the inside of the dress is AMAZINGLY soft.

Try it on Tuesday: Loft Style

This post contains affiliate links.

Loft is looking so cute right now! If you haven’t shopped at Loft before, you should know that it runs a bit big.

Here’s what I found…

Black Dress

It’s hard to see in the picture, but this dress has cute little buttons going down the front. It’s extremely comfortable and easy to dress up or down.

Halter Dress

I like the eyelet details at the bottom. With this dress, you might want to size down two sizes.  I’m 5’4″ and wearing a regular, not petite. I actually ordered it in petite a couple weeks ago but haven’t taken a picture of myself in it yet. The petite is quite a bit shorter on me.

Striped Dress

Fun colors for summer! I’m wearing a small petite so if you buy a regular it will be longer. The top button can be done or left open.

Sweater Tank

Frayed Cropped Jeans

Cute outfit for work or brunch with the girls. My pants are petite. The regular didn’t look very cropped on me.

Skirt

Ruffle Tee

Fun skirt for work or a baby/bridal shower. This comes in petite and long!! I’m wearing regular.

Happy shopping! XOXO

Try it on Tuesday: Target Style

This post contains affiliate links.

I couldn’t resist going back to Target for Try it on Tuesday. Here’s what I tried on this week….

Ruffle Sleeve T-shirt Dress

This dress is soft and comfortable. Most days, I’d prefer to wear it with flip flops. Wearing an XS.

Black Skirt

Tank

Love this skirt! It’s a stretchy knit material. Easy to pull on – no zipper. Very versatile. Also available in gray. Wearing a medium. The tank has a racerback. I like that the armholes aren’t too big so you can’t see your bra. Wearing XS.

Plaid Dress

I’m a teacher so this dress would be great for work during the warmer months at the end and beginning of the school year. Throw a jean jacket or cardigan on with boots and it works for fall too. Wearing a small.

Embroidered Dress

LOVE LOVE LOVE!  Pretty feminine details and it flows just the right amount. Wearing an XS.

Asymmetrical Striped Top

Denim Skirt

I like that the top is a bit different from what I’d normally wear. I think it’s fun to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to clothes. Wearing XS. The skirt has a cute raw step hem. Wearing a 6 but wish it was an 8. Most of the time, I’d probably just wear this skirt with a half-tucked tee.

Pleated Skirt

Blouse

Wearing an XS in the skirt and the top. Skirt feels a bit long on me (I’m 5’4). It’s the new midi length but I think it would look a bit better if I were taller. I could imagine some cute pictures with this skirt. Would also look great with a chambray top.

Denim Shorts

Tie Front Tee

Bow Sandals

Summer staples right here. I like the longer length of these shorts. I’m wearing a 6 in the shorts, medium in the tee, and my usual size in the sandals.

Pull-On Shorts

What’s not to love about shorts that feel like pajamas? Wearing a small.

Swim Cover Up

The high-low hem and lace-up top make this cover up look trendy. Wearing a medium.

Camo Outfit

So I know I’ve said that I would try to end each Try it on Tuesday post with a camo item, but the pickings were slim this week. I couldn’t get myself to try this on…Can you blame me???

Try it on Tuesday: Kohl’s Style

I know lots of people LOVE Kohl’s but I’m not one of those people….That is until they started accepting Amazon returns! Suddenly shopping at Kohl’s became convenient. I normally have to make an Amazon return once a month MINIMUM so that means I found myself wondering around Kohl’s again. Did you know they often give you a 25% off coupon when you use their Amazon return service? Pretty sweet.

Here’s what I tried on this week at Kohl’s…

LC Maxi Dress

Every time I see Lauren Conrad’s name at Kohl’s, I can’t help but think about a couple of my former guilty pleasures: Laguna Beach and The Hills. Here’s a dress by Lauren Conrad. It’s extremely soft. It has tassels that you can tie or if you don’t want them to be seen, you can stick them under the dress like I did in the full body shot. Size down. I’m wearing an XS. I’m 5’4 and wearing 3 inch heals.

Lace-Up Dress

Chambray Lace-Up Dress

Open Toe Booties

I was tempted by these dresses to check out the junior’s section of the store. Do you still shop in the junior’s department ever? I’m probably getting too old for it but sometimes the clothes are cuter (and just about always cheaper). I feel like everything I tried on this week was so soft, including these dresses. In the green, I’m wearing a medium but would have preferred a small. In the stars, I’m wearing a small. I’m sorry, I can’t find the star dress online but I did find the dress in chambray.

Casual Dress

Flip-Flops

This dress feels like pajamas and did you notice it has pockets!?! Love a dress with pockets. I’m wearing an XS but would have preferred a small. Also, the light gray that I’m wearing is slightly see-through in certain lighting so you might want to go with the charcoal or black.  My flip-flops are Crocs. Never thought I’d own a pair but they are so comfortable, very light, don’t slip when they get wet, can be rinsed off when they get dirty, and you can hardly tell they’re Crocs. I wear them all the time. If you get some, be sure to size up a full size.

LC Dot Jeans

Sleeveless Shirt

Cuffed Jeans

Once again, another very comfortable outfit! The jeans and the shirt are soft. I’m wearing a 6 in the polka dot pants and a 4 in the cuffed jeans. In the white top, I’m wearing a small and a medium in “rose taupe”. I prefer the small. This shirt looks really cute when you tie it because it’s longer in the back.

Save Water T-Shirt

Shorts

“Save Water, Drink Champagne” – If you know me, then you know this shirt isn’t me because I’m OBSESSED with water. Have to have it everywhere I go or I feel like I’m suffering from dehydration! I do like a mimosa at brunch but in general, champagne gives me a headache so I normally skip it. The shorts are a nice longer length which can be hard to find, especially in destroyed denim shorts. I’m wearing a 10 but would have preferred an 8.

USA Flag Tee

Distressed Denim

This top is fun for the 4th of July. I’m normally not a fan of asymmetrical tees, but I think this one just works. Maybe because it’s a graphic tee of a flag. I know..flags are symmetrical but the non-symmetrical features of this shirt almost make it seem like the flag is blowing in the wind. Do you see it?  I’m wearing an XS. My jeans are made by BlankNYC. I bought them for a great price from Amazon. They’re a little over-distressed for me but they are probably the most comfortable jeans I’ve ever purchased so I decided to keep them and the rips have grown on me.

Sweatshirt

I headed back to the junior’s department for this sweatshirt. This is the stuff I love to wear at home or while running errands. I wanted it to be extra comfortable, so I sized up to a large.

Feather Top

This top is classy, while trendy at the same time. The sparkly feather details and bell sleeves make it current. Size down in this one. I’m wearing an XS.

I couldn’t find any camo that was worthy of trying on but did you know my favorite brush comes in a pink camo print?

Where do you want me to go next week for Try it on Tuesday?

Try it on Tuesday: Express Style

In high school I loved Express. In fact, my friends and I were just talking about the black dress pants with ankle slits that we all owned and wore often to school. Do you know which ones I’m talking about? They were pretty popular back in the day. Isn’t it funny now that high schoolers nowadays would never wear dress pants to school; they’re all about the leggings. My love for Express faded quickly after high school but recently I’ve started to rekindle my relationship with Express.

This post contains affiliate links.

FYI – I’m wearing a small or size 6 in everything, except for the t-shirt (that’s a medium).

Gingham Button Down Dress

Gingham Wrap Dress

Which gingham dress do you like more? I like that the button dress can be worn to work but think the dress with spaghetti straps is more flattering on me.

Striped Wrap Dress

I was hesitant to grab this one. I wasn’t a fan of the multicolored stripes on the hanger but thought it had potential. Once I put it on, the colors suddenly looked cute to me. I think it’s fun for summer. I’m sure you have certain patterns, colors, styles that you’re drawn towards but every once in a while grab something different. It could surprise you and you might actually like it.

Striped Cut-Out Dress

I really liked this one when I tried it on, but now that I see myself in a picture I’m not a huge fan. I’m not sure if it’s the cut or the stripes, but I feel like it makes my hips look bigger than they are (and I’ve already been blessed with child-birthing hips). Check out how Express styled this dress…I can’t believe that look is coming back!

Button Down

This is a pretty basic button down that I simply tied at the bottom. Now I need to go back to my closet and look for old button downs that can get a fresh look with a little tie.

Tie Front V-Neck Tee

This is the type of shirt I could live in every day. It’s comfortable and the tie turns a simple v-neck into something stylish.

Camo Shorts

Camo Tank

As promised, I’ve included some camo in this post. I love these drawstring shorts. They soft and comfortable. They do run big so size down. The tank is comfortable too. There are slits on the sides so if you don’t want to show any love handles, you’ll want to wear high waisted pants.

Express had lots of cute camo. Here are more items I didn’t get a chance to try on…

Leggings

Skirt

Sweatshirt Dress

Pants

Try it on Tuesday: Old Navy Style

I’ve got a little secret for you….I don’t actually go to the store to try on clothes on Tuesday.  I go before Tuesday so I have time to get the post ready and find the links online.  I try to go over the weekend without kids or Monday afternoon with only one kid since the others are in school. Welp, this week didn’t quite work out the way I wanted, so Monday night I ran over to Old Navy thirty minutes before the store closed and did the best I could. I’m sure the Old Navy employees wanted to kill me so I apologized over and over and tried to be extra friendly.

This post contains affiliate links.

Workout Tank

This is tricky to read backwards. It says “Does running late count as exercise?” I used to be so punctual but having kids has really changed that. Do you need this tank like I do?

Black Dress

Bow-Tie Wedges

I could get a lot of use out of this dress. Could easily be worn to a wedding or on a date night. I’d recommend you size down.

Tie-Front Blouse

Rockstar Jeggings

Slide Sandals

These pants are amazing! They are Rockstar Jeggings with built-in sculpt and I love them. They have an elastic waistband and make me feel skinny so I had to buy them. I also really like the top with the little tie.

Floral Dress

The little ruffle sleeve and floral print makes this dress extra feminine. I like that I could wear this to work or for a casual night out. I’m 5’4 and wearing a small. For you girls who are blessed with more height than me, it comes in tall!

Jumpsuit

Stepping majorly out of my comfort zone here. I saw so many cute jumpsuits on Old Navy’s website so I really want to try some on but unfortunately my store only had a few in stock in my size. I ended up trying this one.  It’s a really soft material and the tie belt gives it some shape but I’m not sold on my body in a jumpsuit yet.

Camo Jacket

And of course some camo! This was the only camo I could find in the women’s department. I was hoping they’d have these camo pants but they were sold out. I’m wearing a medium in this jacket but think a small would fit better.

Where should I go next week? Let me know!

Try it on Tuesday: JCPenney Style

This post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase using one of these links, LittleBlueJeans may receive a small commission.

I had originally planned to do my Try It On Tuesday at the Loft but when I went in there, I wasn’t feeling their new clothes so I walked next door to JCPenney. Now, I know you might be thinking JCPenney Style, that’s an oxymoron and in the past I’d agree but JCPenney has stepped up their game a bit lately. However, their dressing rooms (at least at my particular store) were AWFUL! I was pretty much horrified at the condition they were in. Like if it were a hotel, I’d be taking my family elsewhere for the night. But I managed to fight through it and try on a few things.

JCPenney is currently having a big sale. Use promo code SAVE60 to save $$. Valid online only. Shipping is free if you spend over $99. I’d recommend just doing store pick-up if you can, which is free on every order.

Alright, here’s what I tried on —>

Off the Shoulder Dress (Choose from blue or white)

TALL Off the Shoulder Dress  (Choose from blue or white)

The material is super soft. In the blue one I’m wearing a small. This dress also comes in a tall size. I’m wearing a size small tall in the white one. It’s definitely longer and bigger overall. I’m 5’4″ for reference. Also, the white is NOT see through at all, which I really appreciate.

Wedge Shoes

These are cute and could go with just about anything. They’re also available in a rose gold color….Swoon!

Open Jacket

Love that this jacket could be easily dressed up or down (clearly I dressed it down here with my yoga pants). It’s soft and very comfortable. It has two little zippered pockets on each side, which makes it look more current. It comes in gray, black, oatmeal, and olive. I’m wearing a small.

Blush Pink Lace Dress

This is real life, people. I’m not a size zero. I need Spanx if I’m going to wear this dress and clearly I didn’t have any with me. This dress fits me but shows my post-baby belly (my baby is 3 years old – what are you gonna do – right, probably should do more planks). But for now I think Spanx would do the trick to smooth everything out and then it would be a great dress to wear to a wedding. I’d size up in this one. I’m wearing an 8.

Camo Jacket

Ending this post the same way I ended my first Try it on Tuesday – with camo! This might become a new tradition, at least for as long as camouflage stays a hot neutral. If you’re not into camo, this jacket also comes in a few solid colors. I’m wearing a medium.

Happy Tuesday and Happy Shopping!

Try it on Tuesday: Target Style

Welcome to Try it on Tuesday! During Try it on Tuesday, I go to a store, grab some cute clothes to try on, take awkward pictures, and then share them so you can see what the clothes look like on a real person.

This week I ventured to Target. I probably should have chosen a store with more forgiving dressing room mirrors and better lighting. Despite the less than ideal dressing room conditions, I still think Target is a great place for Try it on Tuesday because it saves you money. We all know it’s basically impossible to leave Target without spending $100+ so I went to the store and spent all my money on things I don’t need, while you get to shop online (a much more wallet-friendly option in my experience).

This post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase using one of these links, LittleBlueJeans receives a small commission.

Here’s what I tried on….

Olive Tie Front Shirt

I love this one. It’s flattering and super comfortable. I like that it’s longer in the back. I’m 5’4″ and wearing a small. If you’re much taller, it could get a little short in the front so high wasted pants would work well with it.

Side Button Denim Dress

Love this versatile dress. It’s got cute little details – buttons down the sides and a frayed bottom. It’s a nice lightweight denim. Not too hot for summer days. This runs big. I’m wearing an XS.

Birkenstock Dupes

Don’t let me forget about these crazy comfortable Birkenstock knockoffs.

Happy Camper Tank

I think every camper needs a “happy camper” shirt. I will definitely be wearing this on camping trips this summer. I’m wearing a medium. It’s the type of tank that you’ll probably want to wear a black yoga or sports bra underneath because you’ll likely be able to see it at times.

Short Sleeve Dress

Ankle Strap Sandals

This dress is light and comfortable. Comes in a gingham or floral print. I’m wearing a small. The sandals are knockoffs of Steve Madden’s Vision sandal. The chunky heel makes them easy to walk in. Available in cognac or black.

Camo T-Shirt

Of course I couldn’t leave the store without trying on some camo. I’m wearing a medium.

Hope you enjoyed the first “Try it on Tuesday”. Let me know what your favorite look is.

Envelope Travel System

I grew up going on road trips with my family every summer. With four kids, my parents knew there would be lots of arguing and craziness as we drove across the country if they didn’t have a couple tricks rolled up their sleeves. The one that worked the best was a simple envelope system. It worked so well, I now use it with my own kids.

Here’s How it Works:

Before your road trip, go to the bank and withdraw $20 in one dollar bills for each of your kids. Put the money in personalized envelopes for each kid. This money becomes their travel allowance and can be used on treats or souvenirs once you arrive to your destination. Here’s the catch, if a kid argues, misbehaves, screams bloody murder, kicks your seat over and over, you get the point…Then you take out a dollar. It doesn’t take long for kids to catch on and to be on their best behavior. This system made our 18 hour drive to Florida (with three boys ages 3-7) almost perfect.

14 hour drive to Myrtle Beach, March 2017

Quick Recap:

Step 1: Go to the bank and ask for $20 in singles for every kid.

Step 2: Place the money in an envelope with each child’s name on it.

Step 3: Create buy-in by letting each kid decorate his envelope. Also, encourage the kids to dream about what they’ll spend their money on.

Step 4: As you drive, take out a dollar every time someone misbehaves.

Step 5: Arrive to your destination! Let kids spend their envelope money however they’d like.

Hope this helps make your next road trip a more pleasant experience!

18 hour drive to Orlando. Two fingers because we only stopped two times. March, 2018.
