Amazon Subscribe & Save: Your Questions Answered

If you’re a busy mom looking to save time and money on essentials, Amazon’s Subscribe & Save program can be a real game-changer. But how does it work? Is it worth it? I get a lot of questions about the program, so I figured it would be helpful to do a little Q&A. 

Q1: What is Amazon Subscribe & Save?

A: Subscribe and Save is pretty much what the name implies – you subscribe to an eligible item, set up auto-delivery, and hopefully save money. You get an extra discount on top of Amazon’s prices simply by signing up to receive shipments regularly on select products. These are often the products you buy anyway – think diapers, paper towels, snacks, toiletries. You pick how frequently you want the items delivered: every month, every two months, every three months, etc.

Q2: Can I change or cancel my subscription?

A: Yes! You’re not locked in. You can skip a delivery, change the delivery schedule, or adjust quantities. Cancel anytime before the order is set for delivery. This makes it very flexible for seasonal items, baby supplies, or things you don’t need every month. Often, I subscribe to an item knowing that I don’t need it regularly, so I can take advantage of the extra savings. Then I cancel after I receive the item. To cancel an item, go to Manage Your Subscribe & Save, click “subscriptions” and then “edit”. There you can cancel it. To delay an item, you can click on “skip” underneath the product image.

Q3: Are there any fees?

A: Nope. There are no subscription fees  – just pay for the items you receive. Shipping is free for Subscribe & Save items, even if you’re not an Amazon Prime member (Prime members get extra perks).

Q4: How do I save money using Subscribe and Save?

A: I’m so glad you asked! If you subscribe to 1, 2, 3, or 4 products a month, you’ll receive 5% off your order BUT if you subscribe to 5 or more products a month, you’ll get 15% off your order. I always make sure I have at least 5 subscriptions. If you have Prime, you can sign up for Amazon Family to receive 20% off diapers, baby food, and more when you Subscribe and Save.  One of the most effective ways to save money is to find products that are eligible for Subscribe and Save AND have coupons. Q5: Can the price of Subscribe and Save items change?

A: Yes, prices can and most likely will fluctuate each month. When you first subscribe to a product, you are guaranteed that price for the first shipment (even if the price increases before it ships). After the first shipment, the price will likely change. You’ll be charged whatever the current price is at the time the order is processed. I recommend setting a reminder on your phone each month to review your subscriptions. Check the price and cancel or delay products you don’t need. 

Q6: When will I be charged for my Subscribe and Save order?                                         

A: Amazon charges all orders when they ship.
